]]>The Pot Head Princess
Once upon a time, there was a young girl named Green who lived in a small village surrounded by lush green forests. Green was known for her love of nature and her insatiable curiosity about the world around her. She was also a bit of a pot head and loved nothing more than sitting in her garden and enjoying the sweet aroma of her favourite herb.
One day, while wandering through the forest, Green stumbled upon a beautiful High Koalaty pipe, unlike anything she had ever seen before. It was like it had been designed just for her, with gorgeous vibrant colours that looked like delicate flowers and leaves flowing over the surface and it fit perfectly into her hand.
Green was overjoyed and couldn't wait to try her new pipe. She filled it with her finest herbs and took a long, slow puff, feeling the peace and happiness that only her beloved herb could bring. She sat back and gazed at the beauty around her, feeling grateful for the wonderful gift she had been given.
As she sat there, she noticed that the flowers and leaves on the pipe had begun to come to life, reaching out towards her and beckoning her closer. Green realized that she was in the presence of a magical fairy, who had granted her the gift of her beautiful cannabis pipe.
The fairy explained to Green that the pipe was a symbol of her connection to nature and her love of the earth. She told Green that as long as she held onto it, she would always feel the peace and happiness that it brought her, no matter where she went or what she faced.
Green was overjoyed and thanked the fairy for her gift. She vowed to always treasure the pipe and to share its magic with others. From that day forward, she was known as the Pot Head Princess and her tale spread far and wide, inspiring others to follow their passions and find joy in the simple things in life.
And so, the magical High Koalaty pipe became a symbol of hope and happiness, reminding us all to cherish the beauty of the world around us and the joys of life.
]]>First, it's important to consider the long-term value of the pipe. While a cheaper pipe might seem like a good deal at the time of purchase, it may not hold up as well over time and could need to be replaced more frequently. On the other hand, a higher priced and better quality pipe that is well-made and durable can save you money in the long run because it will last longer and may not need to be replaced as often.
The material the pipe is made from makes a big difference. Ceramic pipes, like the ones we offer at High Koalaty, are known for their durability and ability to provide a cooler and smoother smoke than other materials. They are less fragile than glass pipes and won't get as hot to the touch when in use. They have a glass-like finish to them so they feel just as nice in your hands, but the ceramic itself insulates and also hides the resin mess that glass/transparent pipes are known to show. It always looks beautiful no matter how well used it is. Glass pipes are just as beautiful but just don't have the same strength. Metal pipes are super durable but they get very hot to the touch and the surface can potentially absorb the resin making it impossible to make it look clean or you risk scraping metal off while doing so. 😬 Great for rugged trips in the outdoors but not so much otherwise.
Of course, price is still an important consideration when buying a new pipe. It's important to find a balance between quality and price that works for your budget. While ceramic pipes may be more expensive upfront, they can provide a better long-term value because of their durability and the quality of the smoke they provide. We like to think they are worth the investment, but we are obviously a bit biased. 😂
Ultimately, the best pipe for you is one that fits your needs and budget. So, next time you're in the market for a new pipe, we hope you consider choosing one of ours here at High Koalaty. Not only will you get a high-quality product, but you'll also be supporting a small businesses and local artisans (us) and our families.
And not that we are bragging but we would also love to point out that we have been very fortunate that our costs to date have not increased like so much else. *knock on wood* We do hand make everything so that does bring a cost, but it also brings quality too. We try to keep our products to a certain level of value, and while yes, we want to make a profit (it is how we support ourselves and our families), we also want to be an ethical business that has standards and helps our customers and (future) staff. Whether that be keeping our prices as low as possible while still having a quality product or being able to pay more than just a living wage.
]]>My resolutions are to be more consistent (with my business and well my entire life lol) and to take better care of myself (be it exercise, better sleep or eating well). There is no way I'm giving them up yet, it's a process after all, and not a perfect one, but if I'd chosen to completely give up chocolate that might be a different story lol.
I thought I would share a recipe today that my entire family enjoys that is a healthy alternative to junk food (but still fills that chocolate craving), in case you're needing help to keep your resolutions.
They really do taste a lot like a Snickers Bar, and if you're not someone who likes dates (I don't either) these use the sweetness of them but mask the flavour. My husband absolutely despises dates but loves these, so trust me it's worth giving it a try if you have a similar distrust of them lol.

First of all, ceramic is a stronger material then glass. While it is still fragile, knocking your pipe against a counter likely won't do much to your ceramic pipe but it could destroy your glass one. Porcelain (one of many types of ceramic clay and currently the kind we use at High Koalaty) is fired to over 2200 degrees F while glass is only baked to about 1400 degrees F. The hotter you go the stronger the material generally is. Granted there are ceramic pipes that are fired cooler out there (terra cotta/earthenware to name a couple clay types), which are a softer usually unglazed clay, but even they are fired hotter then glass (minimum is approx 1800 F). You can usually tell how strong a ceramic piece is by wetting an unglazed (non glossy or looks like bare clay) section of it. If it absorbs the water (or has zero unglazed areas) it's likely a softer clay. If it beads up and doesn't absorb its a higher temperature clay that can handle a lot more abuse. It also won't absorb odours or bacteria if its a higher temperature of clay much like glass.
Ceramic behaves the same as glass, at least our pipes do that is. The colour or "glaze" we apply on our pipes is essentially a layer of glass mixed with clay to make it opaque, shiny and easy to clean with a beauty you just can't get with glass. Check out our other blog post about cleaning to see all the different ways you can clean a ceramic pipe here: https://highkoalaty.com/blogs/whats-new/how-to-clean-a-ceramic-cannabis-pipe-or-chillum
Another great benefit of ceramic pipes is they can come in pretty much any shape or size you can think of. The limit is only your imagination and skill. Glass just doesn't have the same options due to its fluid nature when heated. Don't get us wrong though, there are beautifully sculpted glass pipes and bongs out there, but they just can't reproduce the same shapes and colours.
Ceramic is also an amazing insulator. Which means (especially if you stick it in the fridge for a bit before smoking, we don't recommend the freezer though), it aids in cooling down smoke as you toke (infact it will do this even without the fridge but not to the same extent) and will give you the smoothest easy hit ever (and a potent one too).
And lastly our favourite benefit of ceramic pipes. Unlike glass, ceramic pipes are opaque. They hide the resin build up, which I'm hoping we don't need to explain just how important that is. While google suggests you should clean your pipe daily, we all know that isn't real life, and you don't want to look at the build up when you haven't had time or wanted to clean your pipe.
So that's our list. What do you think is the best feature of ceramic pipes? Have we changed your mind on glass? Let us know in the comments.

Our preferred method and the one we recommend for our pipes is rubbing alcohol and salt (Epsom or rock salt both work). Depending on the size of the piece you are cleaning, this can be really easy to mix in a sealing sandwich or freezer bag. If you want to be eco friendly, we suggest a reusable silicone bag or skip the bag and work with a container in the sink (just be careful shaking to make sure it doesn't go everywhere).
Simply pour the alcohol and salt into the bag, add the pipe (or fill the pipe and seal the holes with your fingers), close it up and shake for about 5 minutes give or take till it looks like progress has been made. Take it out and rinse with hot water to confirm. If there is still resin build up repeat and rinse again.
This can be done 2-3 times if needed to bring it back to a clean (almost new) looking finish and stubborn spots inside can benefit from a pipe cleaner soaked with alcohol run through the holes.
If you have really neglected cleaning your ceramic pipe you may also want to soak it for a couple hours in the solution and rinse with hot water before starting this process.
**Make sure you rinse your ceramic pipe with hot water when you are finished to avoid the unfortunate alcohol smell that may linger otherwise. And of course always remember that alcohol is flammable so don't light up until it's rinsed off or fully evaporated.
If you don't want to use alcohol with your ceramic pipe or simply don't have any handy, vinegar and rice are a good back up option. Follow the instructions above for the alcohol and salt option above. We suggest a white cleaning vinegar and a smaller rice (although any will generally do). The one thing to remember if choosing rice is that it will absorb the liquid (vinegar) so make sure to be quick with this method before the rice expands or just gets soft. Make sure to rinse with hot water when finished.
This option is very much only for ceramic pipes. While I'm not a glass expert, I do believe its not recommended (I could be wrong though). Ceramic pipes are fired (baked) to a much hotter temperature then glass, a difference of about 700 degrees minimum) which makes it a harder and much more sturdy material, especially with temperature and the stress of boiling water. Ceramic pipes can handle heat, however ceramic is still subject to temperature shocks, so if you choose to use this method we highly recommend filling your pot of water and adding the pipe BEFORE heating.
Having a designated pot just for cleaning your pipe is a good idea (not sure I want to cook in the same pot personally, but to each their own), we suggest visiting a local re-sell store to get a second hand one cheap (that is better on the wallet, you won't feel bad about destroying it and it's also recycling!).
Add water and your pipe to the pot before turning the heat on. Make sure the pipe is fully submerged and that there is enough water that it won't be revealed as the water evaporates during boiling. If you have any spare canning lids you can cover the bottom of the pan with, it can prevent cracks in the glaze surface from being directly on the base of the pot and the direct heat it receives.
Slowly heat up the pot of water until its boiling and reduce the temperature so its a soft boil (will help keep the water from evaporating as much) for about 30 minutes.. Take the pot off the stove and let cool until it is safe to remove the pipe by hand. You could use tongs, but it's not worth the risk of it slipping out and dropping, trust us. Once out, give it a good wipe with a pipe cleaner to make sure any build up inside has been removed and rinse as needed.
Yet another natural option for cleaning your ceramic pipe if you don't have rice or alcohol on hand. Baking soda is a great odor absorber and abrasive and reacts with vinegar to aid cleaning.
Fill a larger container (or a bag) with warm water and add a tablespoon of baking soda and one of vinegar and mix gently. Place the pipe inside and let it soak for a few minutes. If in a bag you can shake for a few minutes to help dislodge resin inside the pipe.
Remove the pipe and rinse well with warm or hot water. Use a pipe cleaner to ensure all resin is removed.
This method isn't one we have used (to be fully transparent) but we wanted to add it to the list as it is an option should you be lacking the supplies above but for some strange miracle have lemons or lemon juice. It lacks an abrasive (although you can add rice, salt and possibly baking soda to help I'm sure), and honestly, its just not the safest method as you need to handle it after pouring boiling water on your pipe. It's definitely a last resort kind of option.
Start by soaking your ceramic pipe in the lemon juice (our sources suggest freshly squeezed is best but the bottled kind will work) in a heat shock safe container such as Pyrex. While soaking, boil some water. We suggest working in your sink for the next step, and carefully pour boiling water onto the lemon soaked pipe. Wearing protective attire (so you don't burn yourself, shake the pipe thoroughly, return to the container and wait 5 minutes. Rinse and repeat as needed. And ofcourse a pipe cleaner is your friend to get into all the small areas inside that need a helping hand.

]]>We know we've been gone for much too long. Between closing up our former business, moving, finding new homes for over a decades worth of supplies, tools and inventory, and just general lockdown depression. It's taken us far too long to get back to what we love and to you and our amazing community. It' been a process, but we are finally turning the corner.
One of our biggest delays has been creating new inventory, our tools were lost for quite a while during the move (we thought we put it somewhere safe, but it was so safe even we couldn't find them), and after going through almost everything they were finally found. Then we had to figure out how to get our work fired as we didn't have a location with the electrical or space to operate our large kilns. We decided to buy a small one to use at home but discovered very quickly in January when we placed the order there was a 3-4 month wait due to a high covid demand and delays. The good news is, our kiln is arriving next week! So we can finally get back to what we love, creating new fun pieces.
We also think the timing couldn't be more perfect, with 420 coming up later this month. So make sure to watch for big things coming soon. 😁
]]>How fitting for our first blog post... It seems Covid has claimed a few more businesses this week including our main income earner and former paint your own pottery studio which will be closed likely by the end of the month. It's hard to be sad for long though when it also means High Koalaty is no longer just a side hustle!
Only Positive Thoughts going forward and we look forward to lots of amazing adventures together with our Koala Krew!
